Discipline

Discipline is what must be in every single classroom around the world. Teaching and learning cannot take place without disciple; that’s why, all teachers must set rules since the first class. So there are six strategies that might help teachers to set discipline in their classrooms, Behavioral change, self awareness, personal influence, and others.

The self- awareness model has several forms or techniques which are successfully used with children of all ages and adults in treating control problems. This model values Ss mental health to make them aware of their feelings and actions so that they can come to term with them, so they learn to anticipate and control their impulsitive behavior.

This is what this strategy is about to make students aware of what their actions really are, to teach them read their own signals, and to engage Ss coping strategies that help them avoid outburst behavior. So, two of the most important techniques this model presents are: Simple counting and relaxation.

  • ·         The Simple counting technique can be extremely effective in reducing habitual or impulsive annoyance behavior when no more issues are involved than attention getting and impulsivity. For example, if a Ss is always calling out in the class, this technique can be really helpful to control it. First teachers have to talk privately with the Ss about what’s happening; then they have to show the Ss that that is true by telling Ss that they will put a piece of masking tape every single time Ss call out in the class, so at the end of the class both teacher and student can get together to count the pieces of masking tape and establish specific objectives to reduce calling outs.. Moreover, the counting is the feedback to the Ss about their progress. Besides that, this technique is really helpful in teaching self-inhibition.

  • Relaxation: this is about muscle relaxation. These exercises involve assuming a comfortable position and relaxing various muscles groups is a systematic sequence. While practice those exercise, the teacher and the Ss must talk about triggering situations, try to identify the settings and the conditions that lead the SS for an outburst, and try to predict them. Besides that they also have to talk about the Ss inner feelings in order to make them able to read their own signals and to turn on their coping mechanism before they lose control.
So, these are two helpful techniques which Ss can learn, practice, and use under stress to cool off, to control themselves, and to continue doing good at school. Moreover, Ss will not learn and practice them if they do not have someone to guide them; Ss need teachers to help them avoid outburst behavior!
